Short Story 1

I started a series of stories, revolving around this 3-year old girl by the name of Tan Xiao Zhuang, after having read her the same stories or books over and over for many times till I can remember them by hard...

Xiao Zhuang and the Picnic on the Moon

One night, Xiao Zhuang was looking up into the sky and she saw the bright round moon. At the very moment, she started to wonder how it would be like if she were able to fly, and fly to the moon? She went to her daddy and ask: "Daddy, can I fly? And can I fly to the moon?".

Daddy was not surprised at all at the innocence that is usually displayed by children of this age. "Wait for me here, and we'll see what we can do about this."

He went to the store room and after some rummaging, came out with a little box that look like a treasure chest. "This is a magical box, and the contents inside will help make our wish come true."

With that, daddy opened the box and within it, lied a magic wand and a little red rocket ship!

"But how can this little red rocket ship bring us to the moon? It is too small" said Xiao Zhuang.

"Be patient, my little one..." replied daddy with a grin. Thereafter, he took hold of the magic wand, waving it around the little red rocket ship and chanted the magic words "Dreamy Dreamy Dreams come true!"

There was some smoke and light after the words were spoken. And when the smoke has cleared, a BIG rocket ship was right in front of them!

"WOW!" was the only word heard from Xiao Zhuang. "The rocket will need fuel to fly and I will go find some to top it up. You go ask mommy to prepare some food for us to have a picnic on the moon, ok?" said daddy.

Xiao Zhuang immediately ran into the kitchen, cannot wait to tell mommy all that had just happened. Soon, the fuel was topped up, the food was prepared and everything was set to go.

Xiao Zhuang stepped inside the rocket, filled with awe and amazement. The rocket ship was spacious and there were many dials and switches. While being overwhelmed with all these, she cannot help but noticed a bright green rubbish bin at one corner.

"I wonder why is this rubbish bin needed in the rocket ship...?" thought Xiao Zhuang.

As quick as a flash, the rocket ship took off and in an instant, it landed on the moon. The moon was so bright, much brighter than on earth. The spot they landed upon was just the perfect place for a picnic, with green trees and a small flowing river beside it.

Mommy took 0ut a mat and layed out all the food that was prepared. The whole family ate the food heartily while enjoying the beautiful view at the same time. Looking up in the sky, Xiao Zhuang saw another bright round object. "Daddy, is that another moon?"

"No, that is earth, where we came from. Remember?" replied daddy.

"Yes, of course. That's where our house it, right?" exclaimed Xiao Zhuang. "That's right" came the reply from daddy.

Very soon, the food was finished and it was time to go home. Xiao Zhuang helped to pack up the empty packet drinks and used tissue paper, and she realised that there is no rubbish bin on the moon!

Then, she remembered the bright green rubbish bin in the rocket ship. "Now I know why the rubbish bin is in the rocket ship!" She packed all the rubbish and brought them up the rocket ship and threw them into the green rubbish bin.

"Daddy, this rocket ship is so clever! It knew that we are going to have a picnic on the moon, and that it does not have any rubbish bin on it. So it prepared a rubbish bin for us!"

"Yes, my little one. We people have created too much rubbish for our earth to handle in terms of recycling, we should not bring this bad habit to the moon or other planets, right?" came the reply from daddy.

"Yes, we should do our part in keeping our earth clean and healthy." said Xiao Zhuang, full with the mission to take care of the mother earth.

In a while, Xiao Zhuang and her parents were back on earth. Filling a little tired with all that travelling, she was soon fast asleep, but before she went into her dream world, she mumbled "Thanks daddy, for bring us to have a picnic on the moon... I can't wait to tell my friends in school about it..."
